What is a Pascal?
Pascal (Pa) is the SI unit of pressure. 1 Pa = 1 Newton per square meter. Named after Blaise Pascal. Common multiples: kPa (1000 Pa), MPa (1,000,000 Pa), GPa (1 billion Pa).
What is PSI?
PSI = Pounds per Square Inch. Common in US for tire pressure, hydraulic systems. 1 psi = 6,894.76 Pa. Car tires typically run 30-35 psi. Bicycle tires can be 80-130 psi.
What is the difference between bar and atm?
1 bar = 100,000 Pa. 1 atm = 101,325 Pa. So 1 atm is about 1.3% more than 1 bar. Bar is used in meteorology and engineering. Atm is used in chemistry and diving.
What is mmHg and Torr?
mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is used in blood pressure measurement. 1 mmHg = 133.322 Pa. Torr is nearly identical (1 Torr = 133.322 Pa). Normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
How is tire pressure measured?
Tire pressure is measured in PSI (US), kPa (metric countries), or bar (Europe). Typical car tire: 30-35 psi = 207-241 kPa = 2.07-2.41 bar. Always check when tires are cold.
